Encaustic Conference 2011

For the past 3 months, I have been planning and plotting along with Conference Director Joanne Mattera to host the next Encaustic Conference in Provincetown.

This conference really is going to be most interesting & very inspiring.  Joanne's contacts and connections, her professionalism & organization skills and her blog-abilty combined with my skills make us a pretty damn good duo. [If I say so myself]

Some of the highlights are listed here but go to the ENCAUSTIC BLOG link to see the depth of what will be happening that first weekend in June. The following week at Castle Hill [Post conference] will reinforce the conference learning and moves one into hands-on learning - with some of the best presenters across the country.

The following are some of the highlights - that are posted on the blog.

This annotated list of Conference events is now complete. With the implementation of one more step--the hour-by-hour schedule (coming soon)--you will be able to select the events of your choice and register for post-conference workshops as well. We expect this to take place just after the first of the year.

Friday Afternoon Monotype Marathon
Three hours, three presenters, each with their unique take on the technique. The Marathon will run for three hours straight, but you will be able to come and go as you wish. The event will take place in a large room, and entering/exiting will not disrupt the activities.

Demonstrators:  Dorothy Furlong Gardner,  Kathleen Lemoine and Paula Roland

 Friday Evening
Opening in town of Beeline, juried by Francine D'Olimpio at her Kobalt Gallery. I'll post the prospectus after the first of the year. (More galleries will be showing encaustic; we'll post as we get that info, too)

Saturday Morning Panel: Mastering Media
While the demos and talks help conferees master their medium, this panel will focus on the various media we have available to promote ourselves and our work. I've gathered a group whose collective experience should help you think about how you wish to proceed with your own self-promotion. And, of course, we look to you to be part of the discussion.

Panelists: Kandy Lozano, Cherie Mittenthal, Nancy Natale, Jeff Schaller, Linda Womack; Joanne Mattera, moderator

Saturday Evening Keynote: Jackie Battenfield
The Author of the best-selling The Artist's Guide: How To Make a Living Doing What You Love, gathers her experience as a working artist, gallery director, author, and educator into a down-to-earth talk that will challenge and inspire.

Sunday Afternoon Panel: Submitting Your Work? What the Juror Sees
How it is that your work can win first prize at one event and not even get accepted into another? What's the logic behind acceptance and its dreaded counterpart, the rejection? Three decision makers--two commercial gallerists and the director of a not-for-profit museum, artists all--talk about the selection process from their side of the submission.

Panelists: Miles Conrad, owner/director of the Conrad Wilde Gallery, Tucson; Laura Moriarty, director of the Gallery at R&F, Kingston, New York; Sandi Miot, founding member, past president, and current director/curator of the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, Novato, California
Miles Conrad, presenter

To see the demos being offered, the inspiring and interesting talks being held and in depth conversations about wax, art, being in a gallery, working on paper, working with a torch and much much more click here. This is a very comprehensive weekend for artists attending. I have to say I'm excited to be part of it.

Think about giving this conference as a gift to someone you love.

Or if you are on the fence and you never came before, consider this conference as the "one".
