Waxing & Waning
I have been thinking a lot about wax these days. In the sense of teaching and painting, and also hosting a giant Encaustic Conference in Provincetown next Spring with Joanne Mattera. There is lots of excitement about it coming to Provincetown.
I have been teaching a 4 week beginning workshop over the past month, the last class is this Thursday. This is my first time teaching Encaustic, though I have taught other things in the past, like etching, woodcut, printmaking for non-printmakers for adults and lots of teaching with kids. I have really enjoyed teaching - it was a bit challenging in the sense that 2 of 5 have never done art before, and 3 are artist who have worked in other materials. So it is a wonderful challenge.
So back to the Encaustic Conference.....I am also feeling like there might be some worry about housing and staying in town. There are lots of nice bed and breakfasts in town, there are condo's for rent (cyberrentals.com), there are motels, hotels and camping for the rugged type. Lots of places to choose from as the The Provincetown Inn is close to full.
I randomly clicked on a post from last year and found lots of great artists working in encaustic, who will be coming to the cape to do either a demo, a talk or a post conference workshop.
So, a few things to think about....registering early. There is a early bird special of $390 and after November 30 it goes up to $450. Think about being in beautiful Provincetown. There couldn't be a better place to be for a conference.
Sun, light, water, drag queens, galleries and a lot of waxing activities! We are working with lots of galleries to host shows that feature people working in wax.

The above image is by Deanna Wood, who will be doing a Masks and Stencil demo at the Conference. Her work is beautiful. And did you hear about the Monoprint marathon?
