Hello Blog, Hello 2014

I can't believe it's been June since my last blog! That's just insane, though I did have a very crazy busy Summer with more going on in my life than ever before.

But it's a NEW YEAR and I would like to start doing more blogging and sharing some new work that's I've been working on.  I've been on vacation for a week and have been painting everyday, and that has sure felt good!

My work for the past year has been strongly influenced by the landscape in which I live. I am lucky enough to have this beautiful view out my window.  How could this not influence. I've been trying to take it down to the most basic concepts.....trying to simplify, a complicated and ever changing landscape.

This was from 8:00 am New Year's Day

The other lovely thing during my week off was that I cleaned my studio and have been working bigger lately, 18" x 24". I'm liking the size and just ran out of panels.

Black House in the Fog, 24" x 18", encaustic on panel
White House in the Fog, 24" x 18", encaustic on panel,
Large Bird with Egg, 24" x 18", encaustic on panel
Harbor, 24" x 18", encaustic on panel

I've also been working really small too, so I'm moving from these little 4" x 4" panels, many layers, they are little studies, experiments, trials, playfull feeling paintings.

So I have a few shows coming up. One is a juried show that is sponsored by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, I don't really do many juried shows, but this is a big Cape Cod Show and mostly it's a community event. The theme this year was "Seeing the Light". I thought this was kind of a fun little theme....so here is my piece.

Seeing the Light (bulb), 12"x 14", encaustic & mixed media on Panel, 2013

AND then in February, I was invited to be part of an Animales Show, curated by Terry Gips at the Galetea Fine Art Gallery in Boston. The show will have Pamela Blotner, Terry Gips, Vicky Tomayko, Meg Walker and ME!

Pig in the Sand, 12" x 12", encaustic on panel, 2010
The show will take place: February 1-28, 2014.  The opening will be on Feb. 7th from 6 to 8 pm in conjunction with Boston’s SOWA First Friday receptions.  So, if you're in the neighborhood, please come! All my Boston friends!

Crow on Piling, 20" x 16", encuatic on panel, 2010

I think that's all for now! I hope you all have a wonderful happy and healthy New Year!

  1. Love the crow! The background is so beautiful -- great colors and shapes, yet doesn't detract from Mr. or Ms Crow! Great book about Crows is "Crow Planet. Has wonderful plates at the start of each chapter of a crow doing whatever the chapter is about. Any crow lover would appreciate the book -- and of course your painting!!!! Margaret Bertrand
